17-21.01.2018 SELECTED WORKS 2018 – Det Frie Felts Festival

English text further down.

The Independent Performing Arts Festival 2018
The Independent Performing Arts Festival evokes the Independent field, which is a necessary counter-culture to the experiences that the established art institutions present. The independent field of professional performance art is both avant-garde and a laboratory for development of new sorts of experiences. The performance environment has managed to collect some strong forces that have worked towards making the artistic value and social necessity of the independent field visible. This becomes evident in The Independent Performing Art Festival – SELECTED WORKS 2018.

The Festivalmanagement is dramatist and dramaturg Gritt Uldall-Jessen and director, performer Erik Pold. This year’s curating team is; performer and choreographer Kitt Johnson, dramatist Jesper Pedersen and performance- and visual artist Naja Lee Jensen. About SELECTED WORKS 2018, they say:

“This year’s programme presents a cross section of contemporary independent performing arts, characterised by the will and courage to insist on a unique artistic expression. Several of the pieces work with the intimate format. They work with closeness and with meeting other people. In the light of the time we spend surfing the Internet, performing arts, which creates a space for physical time together, is very important. It is this importance, we have tried to embrace in this year’s selection for The Independent Performing Art Festival – SELECTED WORKS 2018”.

The festival is partly held at the Royal Theaters “Corpus Stage” and at Warehouse9 where we show the performances “Friend” by Seimi Nørregaard and “This is for her” by Sofie Volquartz Lebech.

FRIEND, please be mine. Move and be moved to connect in a performance about loneliness. Welcome to a room of memories and relations.

Performer Seimi Nørregaard guides and directs the audience with words that suggest and associate recognizable scenarios.
Again and again we enter into a social fiction describing our relationship with other people and the roles we take: The pictures and stories we build ourselves with. In an empty room, full of emotions, the audience is invited to recall, dream and reflect.

THIS IS FOR HER

By Sofie Lebech

Where: Warehouse 9
When: Saturday, January 20, at 9.30PM + Sunday, January 21, at 2PM
Duration: 60 min.
Language: English
Price: 50-80 kr. Buy your ticket here.

THIS IS FOR HER is about torture and therapy. On stage are two women. A victim and a perpetrator. A patient and a therapist. Torture and therapy is for two. There is always another person. Torture is about destroying the trust in other people. It only takes a moment, but it takes a lifetime to get back to the everyday again. THIS IS FOR HER examines the torture moment and the victim’s lasting memory of that moment. It is a political and poetic reflection of the world that we think we already know.

THIS IS FOR HER is a research-based performance drawing on interviews with victims of torture, therapists and researchers done in Denmark and Argentina. The performance presents the different persons participating in the shadow play of torture.
Who is the person behind the victim and the perpetrator? Who were they before and who will they become after? The performance is divided in three parts. The first part focuses on the dictatorship in Argentina in the 1970s and 80s showing the long-term consequences of torture on a personal and societal level. The second part takes us to the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq reflecting on our current complicity in the execution of torture in armed conflicts far away. The third part takes us home discussing the effect of therapy for the victim of torture and the soldier coming home from war.
